The Laguna Lakeshore Expressway Dike is a project expressway that will start from the coastal area of Laguna de Bay from Taguig in Metro Manila to Calamba and Los Baños in Laguna.
The project will provide a high standard highway with a dike that will ease traffic flow and mitigate flooding in the western coastal communities along the Laguna Lake. The highway will run from Taguig in Metro Manila through the towns of Calamba to the Los Banos-Bay boundary in Laguna.
Groups led by diversified conglomerate San Miguel Corp. (SMC) are expected to bid for the P123 billion Laguna Lakeshore expressway and dike project, while other companies remained undecided as the deadline for the submission of qualification documents nears.
A source said SMC would submit qualification documents for the Aquino administration’s biggest public private partnership (PPP) project to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Friday.
The private partner will finance, design, construct, operate, and maintain the 47-kilometer flood control dike with a six (6) lane expressway toll road on top. It will also include the construction of interchanges, bridges, floodgates, and pumps, from Taguig to Los Banos. The private proponent will also undertake the reclamation of 700 hectares located west of and abutting the expressway-dike and separated from the shoreline by a 100-150-meter channel, in Taguig and Muntinlupa.
The expressway will cost an estimated PHP36.74 billion or US$854.42 million. When constructed, it is expected to ease traffic congestion along Muntinlupa and Calamba area, and to serve as flood control measure for communities on the western shore of Laguna de Bay.
