Newly Governor Amor Deloso of Zambales exposed last week that China has been reclaiming parts of the Scarborough shoal also known locally as Bajo de Masinloc, to turn it into artificial islands using the soil and other materials from the mountain of Zambales province.
Upon knowing the Chinese illegal mining activity, Governor Deloso immediately suspended mining permits in the province.
According to an article posted by the Manila Times, Deloso clarified that the Chinese mining companies are operating in the mountains of the province extracting soil and boulders which are then used to build the artificial islands of China in Scarborough Shoal in the West Philippine Sea.
Governor Deloso as quoted in the article said: “The Chinese military is based at an airport built by China at the reclaimed area near Scarborough Shoal, which was built out of the mountain soil of Santa Cruz.”
As per reports, 24-7 day and night operation of three Chinese aggregates: Wei-Wei Group, Jiangxi Rare Earth and Metals Tungsten Group, and Nihao Mineral Resources Inc. operates over the municipality using five Filipino dummy ‘small-scale mines’ at the mountain of Sta. Cruz, Zambales faces the West Philippine Sea.
According to Deloso, allegedly it was the former governor Hermogenes Ebdane is the one to blame in the illegal mining activity in Zambales, allowing the selling of Philippines soil to the Chinese.
Deloso as quoted by the Inquirer. “Siyempre may kumita diyan, imposibleng wala, hindi naman hahakot lang ng hahakot ng lupa kung walang ibinabayad”, (Of course, there were people who gained from the selling, it is impossible if there’s none, they won’t get soil if there was no payment) – JCE.
