An insider from Foreign Affairs Department told the Manila Standard that the Philippines is pondering to buy two to four Russian-made combat helicopter, either MI17 or MI24  to enhance the nation’s defense capability against conceivable internal and external threats.

“We are looking at buying two to four MI17 or MI24  . This is in accordance with President Rodrigo Duterte’s attention is more on interior security than outer,” the source, who requested obscurity, told the Manila Standard.

A report said that Russian helicopters are low on maintenance and are intended to withstand harsh weather condition.

Recently, Duterte ventured up his hostile to US talk, advising President Barack Obama to “go to hell” and saying that if Washington keeps on declining to offer weapons to his nation, he can swing to Russia and China.

Russian Mi-8/17 combat helicopter
