Armed Forces of the Philippines chief General Eduardo Año said the military is waging a “hybrid war” against the Maute terrorists, who are not “playing by the rules.”

Año said.”Our troops are engaged in a close quarters combat (CQC) or close quarters battle (CQB) with the maute terrorist.

He said it is a combination of conventional and non-conventional war using weapons at a very short range, fighting on hand-to-hand combat including the use of military knives.
