MANILA, Philippines – For the first time in history, the Emperor and Empress of Japan have accepted the invitation of President Benigno Aquino III to visit the Republic of the Philippines.
On the event of the 60th anniversary of the normalization of the diplomatic relations between Japan and the Republic of the Philippines, in view of the friendly and benevolent relations between the two nations, the Government of Japan has advised Their Majesties the Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko to pay an official visit to the Republic of the Philippines next year.
“We are pleased to announce that the Philippines has started necessary coordination with Japan for a visit of Their Majesties, the Emperor and Empress of Japan, to the Philippines, possibly in early 2016. This visit responds to President Aquino’s invitation,” Coloma said.
“It will be the first time a reigning Emperor of Japan will be visiting the Philippines, and returns the warm welcome Their Majesties extended to the president when he visited Tokyo earlier this year,” Coloma added.
Their Majesties are planned to leave Tokyo on 26th January 2016, and the length of time of the visit will be five days. – Carl E., Kyodo, PNA
