Former Governor Manny Piñol of North Cotabato confirmed that Mayor Rodrigo Duterte of Davao City has eight senatorial candidates in his line-up and is set to announce his decision regarding his presidential candidacy this coming week-end.

According to Piñol, on the night of October 6 during a meeting with friends and adviser, Duterte said he would just backing the individuals who believe in his advocacies against crime, corruption and drugs and his efforts to bring to the peace table the rebel groups who have been fighting government for decades.

This eight senators are running either as independent or under a party and will be included in Duterte’s line up as guest candidates.

1. Senator Panfilo Lacson

2. Leyte Congressman Martin Romualdez

3. Congressman Samuel Pagdilao Jr.

4. Manila Vice Mayor Isko Moreno

5.  former Senator Miguel Zubiri

6. Representative Manny Pacquiao

7. Senator Serge Osmeña

8. Las Piñas Congressman Mark Villar

Senator Alan Peter Cayetano and Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr. both joining the vice-presidential race submitted backing and support to Mayor Duterte and want to run as his running mate.

On the other hand, Piñol said there is a report that Las Piñas Congressman Mark Villar has decided not to run for senate and Miguel Zubiri will still refer his inclusion to PDP-Laban head Senator Aquilino Pimentel III by Mayor Duterte.

One of Duterte’s advisers as quoted by Piñol said that “It is ideal to field only eight candidates with four of them having real chances of winning than having 12 with just two of them winning, we have no cash to provide for the individuals who are running for the Senate. They will need to back their own battle. In any case, they will pick up a great deal of votes from Duterte’s sure supporters.”
